January 29th

Today we talked about polar bears.  We watched a good video on our class iPad about the polar bear song.  (click on polar bear song and it will take you to the link).  We also reread the story The Three Snow Bears by Jan Brett.  As we read it we looked for arctic animals that we've been studying.  We also noticed the ice breaking away just like on the video we watched.  After doing this the kids listed things they know about polar bears and this is what they came up:

Polar Bears swim and dive in the ocean.
They like to eat fish and seals.
They are white.
Their babies are called cubs.

We had granola bars and grape juice for snack and then acted out a story of going under the ocean.  We pretended to be fish, crabs, octopuses, and of course polar bears!!

During activity time Mrs. Chyko showed the kids how to make polar bear puppets and Mrs. Gould helped the kids create a giant dinosaur floor puzzle.  At the end of the day, we gathered together at a table and we learned the names for hexagon, trapezoid, diamond, and triangle.  Then we used plastic pattern blocks to created designs with these shapes!

It was nice to see Wadie back from his trip today.  But now Liam is home sick.  Hopefully flu season is almost over!

We had an open house today.  Great turnout, some parents were interested in adding their children to class this year while others were looking for next year.  Saw some familiar faces and some new ones.  It was nice to visit with everyone  and watch the children start interacting with one another.  Several parents mentioned starting a blog and Karen, Joan and I thought it was a great idea, so we're going to give it a try!
